Product SUMMARY: All versions | Each intercom system is designed to be installed permanently into your vehicle and will be powered from the main battery (12V -ve ground). The intercom is designed to be activated automatically only when the vehicle ignition system is switched on. The unit has been designed specifically for those customers who demand the best from their investment. | | Except for helmet cords, each model once installed, will be concealed thus increasing the security of your purchase. | | Each model is capable of powering a select number of peripheral devices e.g. CB radio, thus negating the need for battery replacement in such a device. | | Connection from helmet to head unit is via a robust coiled cable fitted with a professional 5pin DIN connector at each end of the cable which allow convenient connection without fuss. | | The physical characteristics of the head unit is a diecast metal enclosure that is moisture and dust proof when installed within an enclosed region of the vehicle. | | The intercom operation is push button controlled and will only operate when you want it to. | | It is possible to communicate from bike to bike etc with the addition of a small UHF CB radio. In some cases the radio is not included with the intercom system. | | The operation of a CB radio (if fitted) is automatic on receive. Speech transmission is initiated by pressing the handlebar PTT switch for more than 1 second while intercom mode is active. The transmission will cease when the switch is released i.e. the action does not latch. | | The basic model can be upgraded to the PRO or ELITE. If you have a basic model then call or write to us for upgrade details. | | The Easycom product range is microprocessor controlled for the ultimate in flexibility. | | The Easycom is constructed using modern surface mount electronic components which ensure high product reliability and small physical package. Your bike may not have much in the way of spare room for add on devices but despite this we are confident that the unit WILL fit. |
A typical installation providing you with communication between rider and passenger, music on the go and bike to bike comms' will consist of one PR000002 Easycom PRO + approved headsets + two PR000006 leads and one approved CB radio. That's it except for your choice of music source and of course, a system for your mate's vehicle if bike to bike communication is to be a reality. The following models include the basic model features listed above. Product SUMMARY: PRO | The PRO model allows you to connect a music source such as MiniDisc, MP3 etc to the system. When in use, music is switched to each helmet automatically according to the status of the intercom function and CB radio reception. | | Your passenger has the option of disconnecting from the music if they prefer to listen to the sound of the bike etc. | | The unit can supply a fixed power source for powering the music player. | | If your choice of player requires a higher voltage (e.g. 9V) then the Easycom power supply can be used to control a relay which is wired to switch the converted supply to the player. In this case you supply the voltage converter or if necessary contact us for advice on how to source the required components. | | The connection between player and Easycom is via a transformer in each channels audio path. This ensures that the output of the player is unaffected by the Easycom. This is most important as it reduces the possibility of hum or other noise input and will not affect the mega bass output if your player has that facility. | | A left and right channel audio output (approx 0.5W) is available for connection to two loudspeakers if there is room for such devices on the bike. The feature is enabled when the riders' PTT is operated while the system is powering up. Once switched on, the bike can be switched off and the Easycom will remain powered until the riders PTT switch is pressed. This mode allows music to be heard within a short range of the bike while washing, servicing etc. The players' power supply must be controlled by the Easycom for this mode to function. The intercom and CB functions are NOT available in this mode. | | This model can be upgraded to the ELITE. If you have a PRO or Basic model then call or write to us for upgrade details. |
Product notes: ELITE In addition to the features offered by the BASIC and PRO models, the ELITE provides a digital voice messaging function that will inform you of the following conditions. | Engine on or off. A typical message to record and play back is "Remember to disconnect your helmet" | | Indicators on. After a set period expires a message will play to remind you that the indicators are on. | | Low Fuel. When a low fuel condition appears a message will play to indicate the fact. | | Auxiliary message. User defined spare message which could be used to indicate brake lamp fail for example. | | A voice diary for recording a reminder message while on the move etc. Will play back when the ignition is turned off. | | A message that will repeat at a preset interval which is adjustable from 10 minutes to 2 hours. "Watch your speed" or "Time for a rest" are two examples. |
Some messages can be disabled if they are not required and for the messaging system to work the appropriate sensors must already exist on the vehicle e.g. fuel level sensor/warning lamp. To integrate successfully some knowledge of the vehicle electrical system is required. Please observe the warning that precedes this text. In each case, you provide the message in your favorite voice and all messages can be reprogrammed by you. Note that a pair of headsets will be required if rider-passenger communication using any of the Easycom models on one vehicle is required. Contact us for advice on selecting a suitable speaker. We prefer to employ speaker driver that are approx 8mm thick and 30mm in diameter which will result in a very small package. This ensures a minimum of discomfort when used inside a helmet environment. Why buy a Davnelle intercom? | In addition to all of the above you could spend around $35 for an intercom which could be categorized as a toy, or you could spend up to $1700 which is nice if you have the cash. Our systems have been designed to provide the desired functions at a fair price given the level of complexity involved and the cost of key components. For example have you ever priced a hands free mic/headset for a mobile phone typically $40 will get you a cord, plug, single earpiece and a microphone. | | Our system does not demand a constant replenishment of batteries. We use the vehicles battery to power our intercom and any peripheral devices you may want to connect to the system. Result, your ongoing costs are significantly reduced. | | Headsets can be designed to be as comfortable as possible when used in the confined space of a helmet. Our speaker based prototype of some years ago worked extremely well around town and after further experimenting, during the daily 40 minute commute to work. However with such an installation as good as it was, out on the open road and one hour into a ride, the pressure on ones ear made it almost necessary to throw the helmet away. Needless to say, considerable time was invested to resolve this problem too which you gain the benefit. If you don't believe this then try it for yourself, place a fontopia (earbud style) earpiece/headphone into your ear/s, carefully put a helmet on ( the earpiece will probably fall out so try again), go for a ride and then time how long it takes before you throw the earpiece away (be careful removing the helmet since the earpiece will want to rip your ear off during the process). Poor fitting speakers will have the same effect. | | Speaking of speakers - our speaker drivers (the part that actually makes the sound) have been chosen to perform to our high standards. We tried cheap walkman style headphone (the < $20 units) drivers and we also tried a couple of mobile phone drivers (yes they are very small) but the power handling and/or frequency response of such units was fairly average and well below what we were looking for. | | Our system does not provide a mechanism whereby radio transmissions originate near your head. While it is true that the energy content of a CB radio is nothing like a mobile phone and it is also true that the negative affects of mobile phone emissions is unclear, we can state that this is simply not an issue at all with respect to our system. | | Some people will curse the implementation of a handle bar mounted push to talk (PTT) switch over a voice operated system. We have tried them both and at the end of the day the switch wins by a country mile for the following reasons, 1. The intercom will not operate of its own accord every time a truck or other large vehicle passes by. 2. Operating the intercom or CB radio is a simple push button action and is not subject to the same false operation by wind and other noises. 3. The selection of other functions such as music silence**, CB RX ignore** etc is easy to implement with a switch where as the non wired alternative would be an implementation of a (costly) voice recognition system. 4. The electrical characteristic of the microphone amplifiers can be relaxed to the point where it is not necessary to locate the microphone in such a way that you practically swallow the device! Some other systems require the microphone to be placed on the chin bar right at your mouth so heaven help the poor microphone if you happen to sneeze inside a full face helmet!! 5. It just works!! | | We want our customers to rate us well with their friends therefore we offer quality advice and instructions for our customers especially those wishing to install their own system. If you can operate and read a multimeter then you can easily install an Easycom. If you don't know what a multimeter is then we have access to a number of professional installers capable of grafting an Easycom into your vehicle at a fair price. | | If you follow our recommendations with respect to installation then no-one will ever know the system is present bar one or two helmet cords. With the cord/s tucked away under the seat the system becomes invisible therefore the opportunity for environmentally caused damage, theft or vandalism to the product is greatly reduced. | | Lastly, we don't design or make toys. The Easycom is a professional device designed to work in an extreme environment which does no justice to the name. From our point of view there is nothing "easy" about designing an audio device to compete with the noise, heat, moisture or lack of space within a motorcycle environment. We have overcome the hard bits to make it "easy" for you therefore, |
ONCE A DAVNELLE INTERCOM SYSTEM IS INSTALLED YOU WILL WONDER HOW YOU EVER RODE WITHOUT ONE. **Music silence is a handy feature that allows your passenger to disconnect from your choice of music. When implemented, they get to listen to the bike, the CB radio or your voice when the intercom is activated. A push to talk switch (if fitted) accessible to the passenger allows them to control this feature. **CB RX ignore is a feature we have found useful when riding alone and allows you to deselect the automatic radio receive signal under such a condition. This means you don't have to be distracted by public radio chatter which tends to proliferate on the UHF citizen band in some areas. The feature is easily re-activated while on the move by following the same process used to disable the function. This facility assumes that access to actual CB controls is unavailable whilst on the move. Why you would NOT buy a Davnelle intercom. | We have used this product for our own pleasure and consider motorcycle touring to be one of the better ways to spend one's leisure time. Adding the ability to speak to others on and off the bike AND being able to listen to your favourite music in stereo and with good quality while on the move makes a great experience even greater. |
